As the e-bike revolution takes over, electric mountain bikes are popping up left and right. We somehow managed to miss this pricey, high-end, badass all-mountain, full-suspension model from Bulls E-Bikes. The E-Stream EVO AM 4 rocks 27.5” wheels on a lightweight 7005 Aluminum frame, with a Rock Shox Deluxte RT, 150mm full suspension that absorbs shocks, bumps and jumps of all sizes. The front fork is a 150mm a Rock Shox Lyrk RC Boost Solo Air, for a smooth-yet-firm ride all around.
What Bulls is most proud of, however, is the 250 W Brose Drive S motor, which packs 100 Nm of torque, is nearly silent and free from vibrations, and adds a serious kick to your uphill pedaling (or saves you when you’re already exhausted). It’s manufactured in Germany and has been precisely shaped and fitted to the frame to keep the perfect center of gravity while riding and spinning. The S version also has a host of new refined features making it a faster, smoother machine than before, such as a simple stainless-steel bolt that alone increases power roughly 15%. You’ll be able to get well over 20 mph on trails, offroad and even uphill with this new motor supplementing your pedals.
The power from this motor is channeled into a SR Suntour 38T + Miranda crankset, paired with Shimano Deore XT RD-8000-GS 11-speed and matching Shimano Deore XT SL-M8000 shifters. Magura MT-5 Hydraulic Disc brakes add stopping power and allow you to stop and turn on a dime.
One new addition on the EVO AM 4 is the new KS Lev Integra dropper post, which adds 120mm of travel, comfort and clearance to an already smooth ride, compared to a regular seatpost.
Enough of the tech specs, you say. How does it drive? The EVO AM 4 is really one of those things you ought to try for yourself. Start by turning it on; you press the Power button located on the handlebars and it immediately powers up. There’s a small Marquadt control display on the left handlebar, which contains speed, battery power, and all the other important stats you need, and is easily accessible; it even comes with a power meter built right into the bike. A power meter measures the exact energy the rider has output and can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars on its own. Bulls includes it with the bike.
There’s also Bluetooth, which allows you to connect with an app called Naviki and uses navigation, tracking, and even integrate it with other functions such as a heartrate monitor.
This is one serious and pretty bike – which is why it comes in with a steep price tag of over $5000. At that price, you can compete with the highest-end of mountain bikes out there – but you get the added bonus of an electric motor.
